The Missionary Sisters of the Assumption, largely made up of nuns from Ireland, live in several areas in South Africa. They touch thousands of lives year-after-year in some of the most economically depressed areas of the globe. These nuns have selflessly pledged their lives to South African communities, keeping the dignity and respect of those whom they serve at the forefront of their ministry. Among countless other things, these incredible nuns are responsible for:
  • Running Sacred Heart House – a South African safe house in Johannesburg where they care for those dying of AIDS. These are people who have been sent home from the hospital and in many cases, have been turned away by their families.
  • Working as medical missionaries – delivering babies in the middle of the night, tending to those dying in hospital beds, or visiting prisoners on death row.
  • Educating the African community – visiting parishes and schools to educate on the AIDS virus through their program EDUCATION FOR LIFE.
